Abstract

A tensioning system is described which provides a constant tension on the supply side of the photoconductor (PC) in a configuration utilizing a rotating drum with inner supply and take-up spools. (Image Omitted) The gearing system utilized is shown in Fig. 1, and the inner spool tensioning system is shown in Fig. 2. In operation (Fig. 1), when the PC is required to be advanced, gear 10 is held stationary in space while the drum rotates; all the gears rotate in the direction indicated. Gear 11 is attached to the take-up spool and moves the PC while gear 12 is attached to the supply spool. Gear 13 contains a one-way clutch and gear 14 contains a shaft that engages the one-way clutch. A constant load or drag is provided on gear 15 by means of a stationary hub and a compression spring.
