Abstract

An impact line printer is provided which can print regular 10-pitch printing as well as 15-pitch mini-printing, using existing print hammers. This contrasts with the use of a separate hammer bank, in combination with the standard hammer bank, to provide mini-printing. By using existing print hammers, the cost is reduced since the number of hammers and drivers does not have to be increased. Two-character-wide hammers are used to print regular 10-pitch and 15-pitch mini-printing. Each hammer will cover two print positions for 10-pitch printing and three print positions for 15-pitch printing. There will be two identical hammer banks in a printer. Each bank has 66 hammers to cover print line. The print belt has two rows of char (Image Omitted) acters etched with the same pitch, and two print lines are printed at the same time.
