Abstract

In the design of the bias coil for M/O recording, it is desirable to provide a large coil volume so that the heat dissipation is low. However, there are severe constraints on the height of the coil and the width of the pole pieces. The height is limited by the form factor requirements of the drive. The width of the pole pieces is limited by the window on the disk cartridge and by the efficiency and uniformity of the magnetic flux loop. (Image Omitted)
