Candidate Reduction Method for Character Recognition

A program is disclosed in which the candidate characters output by a discrimination step in an optical character reader (OCR) are reduced by a simple operation before being sent on to a sorting step. Consequently, the sorting step is completed faster and the total throughput in an OCR system is improved tremendously.
