Clip for Preventing Electrostatic Discharge Damage

The described electrostatic discharge (ESD) clip device solves an ESD current path problem experienced in the field. When the customer installs a tape cartridge in the tape drive, there is a possibility of injecting stored charge into the machine through the tape cartridge. The ESD clip device forces the discharge away from the machine and directs the current path through a series resistance, lowering the current level. Thus, the device controls both the location and level of ESD current entering the machine.
