Disclosed is a digital filter simulation technique which stores the filter and signal data in a compact, memory-efficient form. The number of bits of precision may be defined by the user of the simulator for data and filter coefficients, and the precision for each may be different. This allows the user to change the precision of the filter coefficients or data at any time, to see the effects of the change on the result without requiring redefinition of the filter or data.
