This article describes a method for providing a set of common services for the development of graphical controls in the OS/2 Presentation Manager environment. A control under the OS/2 Presentation Manager is a user interface element with a unique programming interface and application function such as a menu or scroll bar control. It is a requirement of many of these controls to display graphical objects which the user may select, copy, delete, or move about the screen via direct manipulation. The implementation of this function by each control is an unnecessary duplication of effort resulting in an inconsistent user interaction with the controls. By providing a graphical object processor which handles all of the common graphical services, greater consistency and efficiency may be achieved.
