Disclosed is a method for electronic component failure detection employing microencapsulated liquid crystals. The liquid crystals are sensitive to changes in temperature, and are used as visual indicators to isolate and detect potential failed components in various electronic equipment. More specifically, the liquid crystals are "painted on" directly, using a silkscreen technique to place diagnostic messages made of microencapsulated liquid crystals on each module on the card after final assembly.
