A technique is described whereby light emitting display devices, such as electro-luminescent and plasma flat panel displays, have integrated touch screen components incorporated into the flat panel substrate of the display at the time of manufacture. The concept is an improvement over previous light emitting displays, as it eliminates the need to have separate overlays, or light emitting diodes (LEDs) and photo-transistors as add-on components.
