Technique for Selection of Sound Features
Provided is a technique to allow user selection of sound features to overcome
the deficiencies of conventional sound selection approaches.
The technique provides an audio-visual approach for selection of sound with
a pointing device. As the user moves a "scroll box" on a sliding scale, the user
hears the sound change and visually sees the chosen frequency. The user also
has an interactive field for entry of specific frequencies. The technique also
allows users to modify other sound parameters in a similar manner, e.g., number
of sounds and sound frequency.
The benefits to the user are a simple technique for novice or casual user to
modify sound features, while providing a technique for advanced users to select
specific sound parameters. The technique also saves user worksteps by
providing feedback as the user interacts with the selection mechanism.
