A conductive magnetic head slider 1 may stick to the smooth surface 2 of
magnetic disk 3, and this may cause damage to the head and/or disk during the
start of relative motion between the slider 1 and disk 3. A power supply 4 is
connected between the conductive slider 1 and the conductive substrate of disk 3. The resulting current distorts the disk contacting area of the slider to the
extent that the surfaces are no longer bonded together and the slider will move
freely on the surface 2 of the disk 3. Alternatively power supply 4 can be
connected to two spaced points on slider 1 as shown in the right figure. The
resulting current also works to free the slider 1 from the disk surface.
