thickness of disk by implementing the added features described below. The
device also shows a novel test arm fixture design.
In Fig. 1, test arms 1 mount into blocks 2 and 3 by means of the spring
plunger 4 which is actuated by the spring 5 and lever 6. When the lever is
rotated sideways, the plunger is retracted, allowing the head to be inserted or
removed. When the lever is released, it forces the plunger forward due to the
spring pressure, locking the head into position. Note that the arm must be
pushed back to the locating dowel 7.
The positioning of the blocks for multiple disk thickness use is done by having
the lower block fixed, thus giving a standard disk registration height, and having
the top block 3 moved due to the motor 8, and Z positioning table 9, mounted to
the rear of the block. This method achieves the accuracy needed for head
positioning at any disk thickness.
