Abstract
This article describes a technique for providing an efficient, user friendly editing capability in an expert system tool. After creating a knowledge base and running it through a compiler, the diagnostics that are produced by the compiler are displayed in a window. The user may "pick" or select a diagnostic line with a pointing device (i.e., mouse) and cause the first knowledge base object mentioned in the diagnostic to be put into an edit window. The user can then edit the knowledge base object as necessary. This provides a 'fast path' to editing objects mentioned in the diagnostic listing.
