Disclosed is a method to file a new folder into a library by copying an existing folder through a specified level of folder nesting. A folder is a document which can contain other documents. Each folder has an associated data area containing a list of documents immediately contained in that folder. The associated data area can be thought of as a folder table-of-contents (FTOC). Any contained document can also be a folder. The documents contained within a contained folder are listed in the contained folder's FTOC. The FTOC can be considered as a list of pointers to the contained documents. This method allows the nesting of folders to continue indefinitely. The folder, itself, can be considered the zero-level of folder nesting.
