Abstract

The present article describes a method of configuring an ECL (Established Communication Link) [*] network using a circuit switch as 'the ECL configurator". In the proposed method, ECL network segments are attached to the ports of a circuit switch. Then the switch provides internally port-to-port paths, to interconnect the ECL network segments, completing the required ECL network topology. Each of the switch internal port-to-port paths becomes a part of a ring, and the token of the ring actually passes through the path. The most significant advantage of the proposed method is that dynamic reconfiguration of the ECL network may be achieved by simply changing the switch internal port-to-port connectivity. Furthermore, the method may be extended to multiple switches.
