A method is described which reduces the cost of platen manufacturing. By using the blow molding process, a structure the shape of a typewriter or printer platen can be economically manufactured. If a desired coefficiency of friction cannot be achieved with the blown material, a secondary layer can be added using numerous techniques known in the art.
