Abstract

A clock track is required on a disk file servowriter to generate timings for writing servo patterns. A conventional iterative process using two clock heads and a phase-locked oscillator is limited to the number of sectors and bytes per sector being multiples of 16 or less. This process is extended here by the use of programmable counters to enable the clock track to have multiples of prime numbers greater than 16. A clock track must have the correct number of pulses per revolution for the number of sectors and number of bytes per sector required by the file format. The iterative process for generating the clock track using two clock heads is as shown in Fig. 1. One pulse per revolution is written on the first head.
