Abstract

At power-on reset (POR), a user of a typewriter is prompted to enter the current date with this prompt being ignored except for the first time of each day. If the user does not wish to use the current date, then the prompt at the first POR is ignored. During typing, activation of a key causes insertion beginning at the midpoint between the margins if the carrier is located at the left margin. If the carrier is located other than at the left margin, the date is printed at that location. At POR, the software of an electronic typewriter prompts the user to enter the current date in a format such as MM/DD/YY or DD Month, YY, or Month DD, YY, for example. The prompt can be ignored by the user striking a specific key so that the last entered date or some default date is treated as the current date.
