A method is described which prevents critical error situations from being incorrectly associated with the wrong process by recording the process identification number with each critical error encountered. The PC 3270 Emulation Program encounters situations where a process that generated a critical error is not always the process that detects and, therefore, reports the error. This results in incorrectly reporting error messages when no error was encountered by the process reporting the error. Since the PC 3270 Emulation Program contains a multi-tasking operating system, there are several processes in a ready-to-run state at any one time.
