Coaxial, Quadrature Illumination Viewing Lens for Machine Vision System

This article describes an illumination viewing lens for a machine vision system which provides high resolution viewing of multiple images or features of an object which are spacially separated using light weight fiber optics. The lens device disclosed herein is intended to replace a conventional viewing lens on a video camera used in a machine vision system. Fig. 1 illustrates, in block diagram form, a machine vision system utilizing the lens device of this disclosure. Attachment of coaxial illuminating viewing lens 4 to video camera 1 is made via "C" mount lens adapter 2 and focusing mechanism 3. The lens is comprised of optical fibers. A first group conducts light from the light source 5 (Image Omitted) to the apertures Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4.
