A method is disclosed for saving customization values in the same format as the command line needed to execute the program. The method improves useability and reduces programming effort needed to implement the function. A number of application programs currently available in the market place, will let the user modify a program's behavior using some run- time parameters. This is usually done in one of two ways: 1. Using temporary, once only, overrides on the command line used to invoke the application program. 2. Using a special profile file which changes program behavior for all subsequent uses of the program.
