Scheme to Route Transaction Groups in Multi-System Data Sharing

This invention identifies transaction groups based on their concurrency control behavior. Transaction groups are assigned to systems in order to optimize performance by minimizing data access conflicts and through load balancing. In a multi-system environment, inter-system interference, especially lock contention, has an adverse impact on performance. With the use of a common front-end, transaction routing can be used as a means to reduce contention. It is possible for an IMS (Information Management System) user to divide incoming transactions into different transaction groups based on the user's view of related transactions. Under current IMS, the lock manager can, in realtime, collect detailed statistics on lock conflicts between transaction groups.
