Optimal Page Broadcast Frequency Selection for a Teletext System

The present invention is an algorithm to determine the optimal frequency of broadcast in a teletext system for each page in accordance with the constraints of the total bandwidth of the broadcast medium and the percentile performance requirements. Teletext is a one-way broadcast system in which a service computer is connected to users by a broadcast network. The database of the service computer consists of a finite number of pages. Any user may request any page. On the broadcast of the appropriate page, the user terminal captures the page and displays it to the user. To efficiently use system capabilities, the optimal broadcast frequency of each page in the database, given the knowledge of the average rate at which requests for the different pages are made by users, should be determined.
