This article describes a color palette function at a terminal unit to which a color display device is connected wherein a host processor believes that a monochrome display device is connected to the terminal unit and sends the terminal unit data stream for the monochrome display device. The terminal unit to which the color display device is connected responds to the data stream for the monochrome display device and generates its own control data for displaying the characters on the color display device. The data stream from the host processor includes a set of command part and character codes. The command part specifies character attribute, which is one of eight combinations of three bits representing blink, underline and reverse, respectively, of the subsequent character codes.
