Method to Enhance Inter-Process Communication Access in the Unix Kernel

A method is described to permit multiple calls in AIX Kernel for access permission to be universally eliminated by scanning the access operation array and calling only for the highest level access. This method improves the execution efficiency of Inter-Process Communications (IPC) for semaphore operations. It has general applicability for all permission access array managers in the AIX operating system environment. The IPC access call is modified so that it is only issued once for each semaphore operation (semop) command. The semop work array is scanned for the highest level operation. This will either be a read or an alter (write) operation.
