Abstract

A technique is described whereby a two-position fixture, as used in conveyor production operations, serves as a carrier, locator, backup platform and communications device. The fixture performs a series of assembly functions on production parts while on a conveyor assembly line, so as to produce high quality, high production parts. The fixtures are mounted on twelve-inch centers to the conveyor pallets 10, as shown in the figure, which are on a fixed indexed type over-and-under conveyor system. The following describes the automatic sequence of operations at the various stations as performed by the two-position fixture: Front holding fixture 11 - STA. #1 - The production part is loaded and held in place by spring-loaded clamp 12.
