This article describes a method for implementing a gateway which logically interconnects a processor's communication network to a personal computer (PC) local area network (LAN) Netbios session level interface. This extends the Netbios session level interface to permit communication with other programs outside the PC LAN. In order to develop a reliable message routing and transport layer between the communications network and a PC LAN, the following are required: ~ Compatible Network Addresses - Permit PC programs on the LAN to define themselves with a Netbios network name in a manner which is addressable by the processor's communications network.
