This article describes a method and tooling arrangement to purge all air bubbles from a four-color ink jet print head and fill the head with ink prior to final testing. (Image Omitted) Once a print head has been assembled, it must be filled with ink. This part of the manufacturing process is called bring-up, and requires that the head be purged continuously with dyeless de-aired ink until all the air has been removed from the head. Any air bubbles left within the ink channels will prevent the head from firing its ink jets properly, thus producing an unacceptable print pattern, and rejection of the head at final test.
