Flexible Circuits As Connectors

This disclosure relates to the use of a flexible circuit with conductive pads on only one side to form connectors. A male connector is formed by bending the flexible circuit around a rigid former to provide two parallel rows of contacts. This technique may be applied to form parallel rows of connectors along a single flexible circuit. Also a female connector may be formed by inserting the flexible circuit into a slotted housing. Simple arrangements are disclosed which enable flexible printed circuits to form double row connectors for making connections in a (Personal Computer) PC. The flexible circuit is processed to form two rows of pads. After manufacture, the flexible circuit is bent around a flat former and fixed by studs or adhesive to form a male connector.
