Digital Spindle Motor Speed Control

This invention provides a means to control the speed of a hard file spindle motor within .1%. This is accomplished using a microprocessor in conjunction with selected hardware elements. (Image Omitted) As shown in Fig. 1, the spindle motor control consists of five major hardware elements. These are the microprocessor 7, a 4-bit digital-to-analog converter 8, a transconductance amplifier 9 which transforms a voltage input to a proportional current output, a six pole - three phase delta connected DC motor 10, and commutation logic 11 for the motor which permits the current input to the spindle motor to be directed in such a way to promote correct motion.
