A method is described for improving row-bow yield in magnetic head
processing by producing head elements on a substrate as mirror images.
The method utilizes a substrate 1 upon which a plurality of magnetic heads
are produced for each of the rows 2 on the substrate. All the rows 2a on one side
of the horizontal center line 3 of the substrate are produced having a selected
orientation, and all the rows 2b on the other side of the horizontal center line 3
are produced having an orientation which is a mirror image of the selected
orientation. Once the substrate is cut into rows 2, the bow of each of the rows 2
will be in the same direction, and, therefore, the bow can better be compensated
in subsequent processing of the magnetic heads thereby leading to improved
yield for the magnetic head manufacturing process.
