Abstract

Concentration of lubricants is monitored using the refractive indices of the lubricant in solution. The shift in the refractive index is large enough to be detected by the refractive index technique. The technique can be used to detect concentration changes as low as 0.1%. The emphasis is on the choice of the refractometer. The one most applicable has a special prism for detecting low refractive index solutions, such as fluorocarbons.
