This disclosure describes a closed loop precision spot location system that is operator independent. The system can be used on planer surfaces to provide, frame fiducials, x and y control signals for precise spot locations coordinates. It also produces precise directional coordinates between two spots on the planer surface that are within the field of view. The directional coordinates produce rotational signals for the platform drive system. The use of land wire or phone lines with modems can provide a wide choice in physical location of equipment. The use of a solid state camera or a video scanning camera is appropriate. The camera of choice distinguishes the background, within the field of view, and detects the difference between light and dark.
