Punch Programming Mechanism

A dense array of mechanical punches, selected from data in coded form and operated at high speed, is provided for punching groups of holes in unfired ceramic or "green sheets". As shown in Fig. 1, the punch select mechanism comprises a drive platen 1 having an array of punch selectors 2 (one of which is shown) mounted on the platen. A punch retract plate 3 is attached to the platen by spacers 4 which extend through a fixed punch retainer plate 5 is mounted to stripper plate 6 by standoffs 7 which extend through retract plate 3. Punch 8 is held by punch carrier 9 which in turn is magnetically held against fixed retainer plate 5 by permanent magnet 10 attached to this plate. Each punch carrier 9 of the array is coupled to an associated punch selector 2 by push rod 11.
