Abstract

Adding a multiple tool capability to the robot at the end of the Z arm improves the productivity of the system. The tool changer is an attachment to the end of the Z arm that allows the end effector tooling to be changed. As can be seen in the figure, the tool mounts to the IBM 7535 Manufacturing System at the end of the Z shaft. The air for operating the tool is supplied through the adapter from the Z shaft. A sleeve 10 surrounds the tool changer and is adapted to be pushed up against a spring 12. When the sleeve 10 is pushed up, the cam pressure on lock pin 14 is relieved. Thus, the adapter 16 may be removed or inserted into the opening in the middle of the receptacle 18.
