Abstract

The travel time required to bring a data scope of a portable test tool/ teleprocessing tool from a service center to a customer location and the time required for repair action are reduced. A data scope function aids resolution of communication problems on a processor. This function can be implemented in firmware or software and traps and analyzes information appearing on the teleprocessing (TP) lines. In addition, the information can be displayed on a console and be recorded on magnetic media of the system. The recorded information allows conditions that existed on the TP lines to be reconstructed at a later time. The information displayed on the screen contains alphanumeric control characters. The data scope function is a diagnostic function that can be executed in an online or offline mode.
