Abstract

A technique is described for use with wire matrix printers for rounding the tips of the print using a grit bag. By rounding the tips of the print wires, the problem of snagging the fabric used in ink ribbons has been alleviated. Tumbling stones 5 are used to round the tips of the print wires 3 which are controlled by actuators 1. First, a metal face plate 4 is clamped onto carrier block 2 by tightening screws 16. The metal bag rim 6 is tilted up so that it is flat against face plate 4. Hooks 7 are rotated so as to engage the base of hangers 8, to lock rim 6 in place. Cloth bag 9 containing tumbling stones 5 is bonded to rim 6 and is lifted upwards to enable eyelets 10 to attach to hooks at the top of hangers 8.
