Abstract

This article concerns a cold trap having improved vapor conductance and trapping efficiency. The trap features circular pitched trapping tiers stacked to form a conical baffle which permits increased pump speed and decreased oil contamination of the trapping surfaces. Conventional cold traps typically include flat disc baffle assemblies which are pivotally mounted in the trap housing. The location and shape of the discs have been found to obstruct flow through the baffle, reducing system pumping efficiency and to accumulate backstreaming pump oil at the disc cold surfaces reducing trapping efficiency. The cold trap shown in the figures overcomes many of the shortcomings of previously known traps. As seen in Fig.
