Abstract

A cartridge of magnetic material can be modified for ease of automatic handling by attaching a magnetizable material to a side of the cartridge generally opposite to the operating section. A soft iron donut-shaped piece or a strip of material can be attached to the side of the cartridge to enable the use of an electromagnet mounted to a carrier to retrieve the cartridge from the storage area for delivery to the drive. Fig. 1 shows a front view of a cartridge which includes a donut-shaped piece 10 of magnetic material, such as a low-permeability iron. The donut-shaped material 10 is placed on a side of the cartridge that is opposite to the operating end for sensing the medium located in the cartridge and generally includes a section 11 for identifying the information stored on the medium.
