Abstract

The fixtures 10 on a synchronous index machine which secure parts to be ultrasonically bonded must be supported by means of two overhanging buttons 12 whose height varies independently each cycle, to eliminate downward flexing of the outboard area of the fixture during ultrasonic bonding and to achieve a uniform bond around the periphery of the cartridge without upward flexing of the fixture. The equalizing cantilever support, as shown in Fig. 1, consists of two cams 14 rotated by commonly actuated, spring-isolated, rack and pinion drives 16 for supporting two rest buttons 12 on the fixture 10. In operation, the fixture 10 with unbonded parts moves into position while the cams 14 are in retracted position to provide clearance.
