This lens, made up of two half cylinders 10 and 12, transforms a point light source at source focal length (SFL) into a line L units long at object focal length (OFL). SFL and OFL are determined by the upper and lower radii R1 and R2 of curvatures. Length L is determined by the length of chord on the upper curvature. Having a lens of length L for the source and two additional lenses of length L/2 with photodetectors at source focal points with their object lines coincident with each other would be appropriate for a tag reader assembly.
