Detection of Skew and Shift of CCD Sensor Array

This article describes a detection scheme of skew and shift of a CCD (charge-coupled device) sensor array from its nominal mount position. A zigzag-like test pattern is scanned by the CCD sensor array, and the sensed pulse pattern is determined to detect the skew and shift. In Fig. 1, test pattern 1 on test chart 2 is scanned by an optical scanning system including light source 3, lens 4 and the CCD sensor array 5. The CCD sensor array 5 has plural CCD elements aligned in center line 7. It is required to precisely position the CCD sensor array at the nominal mount position in which pel line 6 at the designed line position is projected onto the center line 7 through the center of lens 4.
