Abstract

This article describes an automated method of obtaining measurements of density/background on the copy sheets produced by an electrophotographic copier machine. With reference to the figure, the method uses an IBM 5150 Personal Computer 18, an XL 20 Gardiner Colorimeter 14, and a table 11. The sensing unit in the Colorimeter 14 is mounted on X, Y rails 12, 17 and is driven by stepper motors. The table 11 has removable calibration standards 13 to allow for calibration of either density or background measurements. The area of readings can be controlled by changeable apertures that can be selected by the user. The table 11 can hold one B4 sized paper 16 or two legal sized papers 15. When measuring background, four sheets are used. Each of these sheets is measured in nine locations.
