This proposal is to be used in a communications controller wherein the native subchannel (NSC) addresses and emulated subchannel (ESC) addresses have to be set or tested without requiring card handling. Fig. 1 shows the block diagram of a communications controller controlling data exchanges between communications lines and a host system under the control of a central control unit (CCU). A service processor (SP) is used for diagnostic and initialization purposes. The channel adapter comprises a CCU interface card (CCIN) a channel interface card (CHIN) which contains the ESC address range jumpers and a channel adapter driver receiver card (CADR) which contains the NSC address jumpers.
