Printer Interface Having Input Capability

The described interface modifies the conventional printer interface (e.g., Centronics type) by adding an input port thereto, so that the interface can be used either for input or output operations while maintaining compatibility with the conventional printer interface. Referring to the drawing, the widely used Centronics-type printer interface, provided between a controller and I/O devices, comprises eight parallel data lines and a plurality of control lines.
