Under certain circumstances, a personal computer functioning as a display terminal attached to a larger administrative system may lose portions of documents when a return to the personal computer's operating system is effected. Sign-off errors also may be generated in certain instances. This technique provides a means of automatically saving document pages and automatically signing-off in such circumstances. Software is available to enable certain personal microcomputers to function as display workstations within a larger-scale integrated administrative data processing/word processing system. Software features are available with some system configurations which permit the user to exit from the larger-scale system at any point and return to the smaller personal computer's fundamental disk operating system (DOS).
