Disclosed is a hard disk sharing architecture which enables the sharing of a single hard disk with a plurality of program products and data thereof. In the present hard-disk based system, the hard disk is initially formatted and partitioned into a plurality of logical partitions by a common hard disk formatter utility. In this case, a hard disk IPL (initial program load) extension code and a load list are generated and copied into the first partition or common area for hard disk sharing IPLs. This common area is also rendered to contain font and menu data for an IPL next program product menu. A user can now partition the hard disk into a plurality of physical partitions according to the number of program products with which the user plans to share the hard disk.
