It is often necessary to examine each record in one or more files to locate duplicate records or records which are otherwise different but having the same information in one or more fields. Further, it is sometimes desired to only eliminate such records upon the satisfaction of a number of logical operations on a number of fields. This disclosure presents a straightforward method of eliminating such records. The flow diagram illustrates the steps involved in comparing each specified field of each record of each file to eliminate those records which meet the elimination criteria. The first step is to identify the file by name and set a flag if two files are involved. Working storage is now obtained and the field compare logic is compiled at block 15.
