Abstract

Microcode trace capabilities are presently put into and taken out of designs due to space and cost limitations and changes. Existing portable service systems can be used to extend the microcode trace capability for microcoded processors by providing control store address bits and several control lines to a common external adapter which is connected to the portable service system. The adapter 11 consists of buffers 12 and control functions 13 that are necessary to assemble the microcoded addresses 14 from the processor 15 and pass them on to the portable service system 16. It will have several different input plug capabilities to provide connection to a wide range of processors and technologies. A special code, which includes search parameters etc.
