Abstract

The figure shows an exploded view of a simplified paper feed mechanism 1 which is designed for automated assembly. The paper feed mechanism 1 has multiple feed rollers 2 which rotate on shafts 4. The feed rollers 2, in combination with the platen 6, guide, support, and feed paper (not shown). The shafts 4 of the feed rollers 2 are guided by tracks 8 and supported by feed roller arms 10. Pressure sufficient to maintain the paper in frictional contact with the platen 6 and the feed rollers 2 is provided by flat springs 12 which apply a compressive force to the feed roller arms 10. The compressive force which maintains the paper in contact with the feed rollers 2 and the platen 6 can be released by a release shaft 14. The release shaft 14 is provided with notches 16 that mate with grooves 18 in the feed roller arms 10.
